¡¶U.S Chinese Journal of Encephalopathic Medicine¡·is a Chinese-English bilingual international academic publication in encephalopathy sponsored by U.S Chinese Medical Associationand undertaken by Gaoming Medical and Medicinal Institute of Encephalopathy, Guangdong, China, for the purpose of promoting the development of Chinese medicine in the United States of America and all nations of the world, extending Chinese-American academic exchanges of medical circles and extending Chinese medical influence. For a long time past, various diseases that affect the functioning of the brain have been the leading problems puzzling medical circles. Patients with encephalopathy not only have their own sufferings but also bring about a heavy burden to the families and the society, severely affecting the improvement of population quality. Although the rapid progress in modern science and technology has increased diagnostic accuracy of encephalopathy, treatment of diseases that affect the functioning of the brain remains a major difficult problem in modern medicine. The successful development and application of Li's Prescription No.5 reveals the great potentialities and vast range of prospects for treating various refractory encephalic diseases with traditional Chinese medicine and brings about hope of patient's recovery. This journal stresses the distinctive feature of treating encephalopathy with traditional Chinese medicine, reflects academic level of the state, is intended for physicians and scientific research personnel of the speciality of encephalopathy and reports practical experience and scientific research achievements in prophylaxis, clinical diagnosis and treatment of encephalopathy, basic theoretical researches combined closely with clinical practice, and the development of new drugs. Professor Li Zizhong M.D., the famous expert in encephalopathy, holds the post of editor in chief of the journal. In the recent 20 years, scientific researches on encephalopathy has had a rapid development, new techniques, new theories and new achievements are constantly emerging. Doctor Li's studies on regeneration of the brain central nerve cells, his theories of pathogenic mechanism of encephalopathy and the successful development of Li's Prescription No.5 for treating various diseases that affect the functioning of the brain attract worldwide attention. Quite a few personages in medical circles at home and abroad made requests by letter, sought technical consultation or came to make a scientific investigation, and more patients with various encephalic diseases who came from all parts of this country or foreign countries came to seek medical advice out of admiration for his name one after another. This special issue collects mainly Dr. Li's papers published in the recent four years, including those of regeneration of brain central nerve cells and pathogenic mechanism of encephalopathy, to offer to the readers; besides, we also hope to have academic exchanges with scholars at home and abroad by way of making friends through academic activities, hoping to get support and help of personages of medical circles. We have little experience in running a periodical and little learning, so there are bound to be oversights, omissions and mistakes.
